Karkala, Sep 10: A head-on collision between a bike and private bus killed two persons at Halekatte junction near here on Sunday September 9 evening.

Sangam Travels going to Udupi from the town collided with a mobike coming to the town from Belman.  As a result Venkatesh (42) and Murugesh (20) who were on the bike sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.  Both Venkatesh and Murugesh, hailing from Tamil Nadu were working in a quarry at Miyar.

Eye-witnesses said that reckless driving by the bus driver was the main cause for the accident.  Bus was speeding on the wrong side. Though the mobike rider saw that the bus was almost coming on him, he could not get aside immediately.  By the time, he turned bike to to left, bus had knocked them down.

The Karkala police have registered a case against the private bus driver in this regard.

While deepest condolenses go to the families of the deceased, it is high time that the concerned authorities, Policee & district administration looks seriously at these killer bus & truck drivers on our roads. Just look at the number of innocent people killed on the roads during recent weeks.

Is there anyone who will take these accidents seriously and punish those reckless and irresponsibile drivers with most serious punishment permitted by the law. I guess this could only be a dream unfulfilled and more victims will join their creator.

One more addition to the list of victims the madness of private bus lobby. The buses should be nationalised. In KSRTC the driver is responsible even for minor mishaps.

It appears that the driver was reckless. He should be put behind the bars for 10 years so that other drivers should learn a tough lesson for playing with the lives of innocent people. So also the drivers of other accidents at KAUP ( yesterday ) a week ago in KOTA,Three weeks ago in Saligrama, A few months ago with a marriage party and the other drivers responsible for other accidents should be punished severely. Huge publicity should be given of such punishments (if given ). Is there any one to punish these reckless drivers?
