Amit Shah hoists tricolour at party office, Advani at home

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS): BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday unfurled the tricolour at the party headquarters here while party veteran L.K. Advani hoisted the national flag at his official residence on the occasion of the 67th Republic Day.

Shah, who hoisted the national flag at 11, Ashoka Road in the presence of other party officials, later tweeted: "Republic Day greetings to all my fellow Indians."

Advani, who hoisted the national flag at his residence at Prithviraj Road, also greeted the nation on the occasion and said: "There is no question of freedom of expression being curtailed in the country today."

He was reacting to the recent remarks of filmmaker Karan Johar that freedom of expression in India "is the biggest joke in the world" and its "democracy is the second biggest joke".

Advani said: "I don't know who has made such a remark. Who says there is no freedom of expression in the country? I can tell you that we didn't curtail the freedom of expression even during the British rule. Even post-independence, a government tried to do it and we protested against it."
