Two bombings rock Syria's Homs, casualties feared

Damascus, Jan 26 (IANS): Twin explosions hit Syria's central city of Homs on Tuesday as a car-bomb ripped through a pro-government district followed by another explosion carried out by a suicide bomber.

The bombings targeted the al-Zahra' neighbourhood inhabited by Alwaite minority, to whom the ruling elite in Syria belong, Xinhua reported.

Details about the toll were not clear, an official said.

The neighbourhood along with other districts of Homs loyal to the government has suffered from repeated suicide bombings and mortar fire from rebels entrenched in Homs, Syria's third largest city.
