Heightened security at Mathura cantonment


Mathura, Jan 23 (IANS): After the recent terror attack at the Pathankot air base in north Punjab and high alert due to Republic Day, the army has upgraded security at Mathura cantonment.

Intensive patrolling was observed in and around the cantonment area. Thorough checking was being conducted not only at the entry points but also within the cantonment, army officials said.

The Army has procured hi-tech equipment and upgraded infrastructure to meet any eventuality.

Highly placed sources reported the presence and movement of armoured vehicles in the cantonment. Dog squads were also employed at the entry gates.

High intensity lights have been installed at all gates and periphery of the cantonment.

Major General Veerendra Nangia, chief of staff strike 1 along with Brigadier S. B. K. Singh, station commander Mathura station, have reviewed the security arrangements personally.
