UN work will not be complete till people remain deprived: Modi

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the work of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC) will not be complete till there were people in the world who remain deprived of human amenities.

Addressing the 70th anniversary meeting of UNECOSOC by video link, Modi said that the creation of the council as a distinct part of the UN was testimony to the centrality of development in the vision of the founders of the UN.

"So long there is poverty in the world, so long as our people, no matter in which country, remain deprived of basic human amenities, freedom, rights and opportunities, the work of ECOSOC will not be complete," Modi said.
