Puttur, Sep 7: Taluk Agriculturists' Welfare Forum, president, A Jeevan Bhandary, urged the union government to announce special package to areca growers, similar to the financial assistance declared to coffee planters.  Besides this he has urged the state government to provide compensation of Rs 40 thousand per acre for the areca growers.

While speaking to media persons, he thanked MP, D V Sadanand Gowda and district-in-charge minister, B Nagaraj Shetty who were successful in convincing the state government to announce the temporary relief to areca growers.  

The compensation should be released directly to the agriculturists whose areca crop has been damaged, due to pest that affects areca plantation.  The benefit should be provided to all the agriculturists, Jeevan Bhandary urged.

Puttur C S D Bank chairman, Kadamajal Sudhakar Rai, D Ammanna Rai, S D Vasant and Manohar Rai were present at the press conference.
