Eight killed in factory boiler blast in Pakistan

Islamabad, Jan 19 (IANS): At least eight people were killed and 20 injured in a factory boiler blast in Pakistan's Punjab province on Tuesday, police said.

The incident happened when a boiler exploded in the Kashmir Sugar Mill in Jhang district of Punjab province, Xinhua reported.

Several labourers were trapped under the rubble after a room near the boiler collapsed in the explosion.

Rescue teams and police rushed to the site and pulled out the bodies and those injured from the debris.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospital and at least 15 among them were in critical condition, hospital sources said.

Police said the explosion took place due to a gas leak near the boiler.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has sought an investigation report about the incident.
