Avoid Rajpath, C-Hexagon in the coming week: Traffic advisory

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS): With a dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade on Sunday and more slated for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, traffic restrictions have been imposed on the parade route on Rajpath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate and commuters advised to avoid it, police said.

The route of the parade is from Vijay Chowk, Rajpath, upto C-Hexagon around India Gate.

"In order to facilitate the uninterrupted movement of the parade on Rajpath, there will be restrictions on the movement on traffic crossings at Rafi Marg, Janpath and Mansingh Road from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on rehearsal days,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Sharad Agarwal.

Also, the Rajpath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will also remain closed for traffic, he added.

Those working in North Block or South Block and coming from south Delhi should take South Avenue, Dalhousie Road, Hukmi Mai Road and the South Sunken Road to reach office, an advisory from the traffic police said.

Those coming from the north side, may take North Avenue, Brassy Avenue and the North Sunken Road.

Motorists coming on Vinay Marg, Shanti Path and going to the New Delhi station and beyond should take Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, RML and Baba Kharak Singh Marg or the Park Street-Mandir Marg route and then proceed further to North Delhi/New Delhi, the advisory said.

"Because of diverted traffic, congestion is likely to take place on these roads. Motorists are requested to have patience, observe traffic and road discipline and follow directions of police personnel deployed at all intersections," Agarwal said.
