Mangalore, Sep 5: Latest by December end of this year, the Coastal Security Police (CSP) is going to be equipped with the latest boat contingent. Speaking to reporters here recently the CSP’s IGP G M Hayath, informed that all the stations of the CSP will be given 12-ton and 5-ton boats, as currently, the CSP is depending on the Coast Guards for boats.

The boats have been purchased in-order strengthen the vigilance of the coastal police on high seas. Hayath informed that with the arrival of these high-speed boats, it will make it easier for the CSP to carry out patrolling and have proper beat in the sea.

Hayath further informed that that the said boats are being constructed in the Goa shipyard and will be reaching the Mangalore station by December-end.

Presently the sea beat and patrolling is being done with the help of a Coast Guard and Custom Department. The CSP on its part greatly assist in curbing anti-national, anti-social, terrorist and underworld activities in the coastal region (500 metres on shore and 24 nautical miles in the sea).
Responding to a query on staff requirement, Hayath replied that the CSP’s written request for additional staff is expected to be approved by the government very soon. According to Hayath while they get non-technical officials from the police dept., however for the positions of technical staff, retired Navy and Coast Guards are being hired.

Stating that there is no shortage of funds, Hayath said a sum of Rs 1,23,50,000 has been sanctioned per station besides providing 9 vehicles and four motorcycles for the CSP stations. Three CSP Stations for Mangalore, Malpe and Kumta were newly inaugurated.  And each station has been sanctioned a sum of Rs 10 lakh for infrastructure, he added.

The Mangalore Station of CSP is set up at the District Armed Reserve Police premises at Pandeshwar. The team there is led by Inspector Belliyappa and consists of 12 personnel. But once the written request for extra staff is accepted by the government the total number of staff is expected to rise to about 40, informed IGP Hayath.
