Earthquake shakes Afghan capital



Kabul, Jan 13 (IANS): An earthquake was felt in Afghan capital of Kabul at early hours of Wednesday that also shook most parts of northern and northeastern parts of the country.

The quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted 28 km south of Jarm, a district of northern Afghan Badakhshan province near the border with Tajikstan took place at 12.35 a.m. on Wednesday, according to US Geological Survey.

The epicentre, with a depth of 242.94 km, was initially determined to be at 36.6093 degrees north latitude and 70.886 degrees east longitude, it said.

There were no immediate reports of possible casualties or damages.
