Mangalore, Sep 4: A complaint has been lodged against a medical practitioner at the all-women police station here, for allegedly harassing his wife to bring in more dowry. This has been done despite Rs 5 lac already given to him at the time of their wedding, besides even sending her abroad to earn money, while he was found indulging in an extra-marital relationship with another woman.

Dr Satish Kumar, who is running Matha Clinic in Kundapur, had been married to Dr Ratnakumari Hegde, since December 10, 2001.  He was given Rs 5 lac as dowry by her parents at the time of nuptials.  Dr Ratnakumari has been employed in Dubai who reportedly used to send all her earning to her husband back in India, totaling a sum Rs 57 lacs till date.

Dr Kumar continuously harassed and demanded more dowry and even forced her to vacate their home during 2003.  And when she left to go and live with her sister residing at suburban Mangalore at Konchady, he reportedly followed her there. Although a case of dowry harassment was filed earlier against the doctor, they soon reconciled and began to live together again.  But after sometime the incorrigible doctor went back to his previous wayward ways and once again started to harass her to bring more dowries. As a solution to the problem Ratnakumari left for Dubai to work in a hospital.

While his wife was working abroad he started an illicit relationship with another woman and even began to live with her, at Sasthan in Udupi district, since January, 2007. The said lady is a native of Pandeshwar. Moreover, he is alleged to have married the said lady secretly and has even introduced this lady as his wife during the inauguration of his Matha Clinic at Kundapur in May 2007, although he had still not divorced his legally wedded wife.

At the police station, additional cases have been lodged against his brother-in-law, Dr Prakash Tholar, Sarva Poojarthy, Vittal Poojary and others who are alleged to have attended the wedding, despite knowing about his earlier marriage.  Dr Ratnakumari has filed these cases through her brother Nithyanand Kotian who is presently working in Muscat.  Accordingly, on the instruction of the court, a case has been registered at the all women police station, here.
