Bangalore, Aug 31: As a breakthrough in oral cancer treatment, ‘Brush Biopsy’, a revolutionary invention, was launched on Thursday.

The technology for oral cancer prevention will ensure a decrease in the occurrence of the disease. Brush Biopsy is the brainchild of Dr Mark Rutenberg, scientist and inventor.

Dr Zahra Hussaini, who was instrumental in bringing the technology to India, said, “Every seven minutes, one person in the country dies of oral cancer. Brush Biopsy is the path-breaking technology where oral cancer can be detected by a painless method. The technology is computer assisted and certified doctors examine the results and condition of the cancer.”

The technology determines the significance of an oral lesion and also detects innocuous appearing oral cancers at early curable stages, thus improving cure rates and a patient’s quality of life by minimising extensive treatments.

The disease is found in 10 percent of the adult population. While most oral spots are harmless, upto four per cent contains pre cancerous cells that can then easily be removed, thus preventing the development of oral cancers before it can even start.
