Take resolution to allow Parliament to function: PM to Cong

Noida, Dec 31 (PTI) : Attacking Congress yet again over disruptions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the party to take a New Year resolution to allow Parliament to function for the sake of development.

He said having "enjoyed power" for over six decades it has no right to destroy its functioning for "political reasons" and hold back the country's development.

"Tomorrow is January 1. When you are going to celebrate New Year, you should take a vow to allow Parliament to run and do its work and not pose hurdles for the country's development," Modi said.

He was addressing a public rally after laying foundation stone of a 14-lane expressway connecting Delhi with Meerut.

Focusing his attack primarily on Congress, Modi said, "This is the misfortune of India, Parliament where laws are made is not being allowed to function. Those who have been rejected by people seized its functioning.

"They do not allow Parliament to run. I request all these political parties not to do so. Since I have not got an opportunity to speak in Lok Sabha, I am taking the opportunity to air my views in 'Jan Sabha'. People have sent us to Parliament to debate, discuss and decide," he said.

The Prime Minister said Congress has more responsibility to ensure functioning of Parliament as they had "enjoyed power" for over six decades.

"It is our responsibility to accomplish the work entrusted on us by people. This responsibility specially lies on those who have ruled the country for over 60 years. They know what is the responsibility of Parliament.

"It is specially their responsibility to ensure that country's development is not stopped because of their political reasons. They have more responsibility as people had given them opportunity to run the country for over six decades.

"I understand the anger of those who have not got a chance to rule the country. But those who have enjoyed all kinds of power for 60 years have no right to halt Parliament and destroy its functioning," he said.

Indian Constitution is secular & supreme. Modi is the Prime minister of all people of India. Modi should get ride of religious persons, RSS, Muslim league type persons from his Government. Invite & form the Government of secular, professionals, non corrupt, highly educated, persons with modern, cosmopolitan values and the country will develop by itself without slogan, media show.

Our P.M has 56" chest. So he don't care anyone in India who is not in BJP. It is not his mistake that he was not in Lok Sabha during MMS Government otherwise he allowed all the resolutions at that time. As a P.M. he made more than 25 foreign trips in 2015 and met number of world leaders. Their assurance is enough to him to lead and rule India in 2016. Have a prosperous New Year 2016.

Let PM Modi introspect as to what his partymen did to Dr ManmohanSingh during UPA 2 Parliament sessions. The new year resolution for the PM should be to respect the opposition and give them their space in parliamentary debate and discussions. Also he should ensure the safety of Dalits and Minorities and free them from the fear of injury caused by few acts of those supporting his party. Will PM Modi have the guts to do take such a stand?

Major difference between what BJP did before and congress
CONGress is stopping parliament for no reason. Bjp is ready to discuss every thing.
BJP stopped it because the congress was not ready to even discuss major corruption scandals to the tune of 100000 Crore.Their only reason for stopping was to force a discussion.God save this country if people do not understand this basic fact.

Good news that foundation stone has been laid for 14 lane (massive) expressway between Delhi and Meerut. This will definitely reduce some congestion in Delhi. ALso this was pending for last 10 years as 6 way. Good work. Hope work will progress at fast phase.

Agreed Honourable President, at the same time there are lot of expectations from the central government too. Opposition can not and never will work with the ruling party who have ministers with tainted, corrupt and with criminal records. These are against the basic ethics of the society and an insult to the parliament, constitution and to the nation itself. Opposition is just asking for accountability and redressal of the issues.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

Let all political parties resolve, to forget the mistakes of the past and make a new beginning, in the interest of Mera Bharat Mahaan.

This should not just remain as a pious New Year Resolution, but put into action.

It is Parliamentarians sacred duty to function in the Parliament in very sanely, participate in the debates, enact Laws which are beneficial to common people, GST Bill, Land acquisition Bill, so many other Bills are pending in the Parliament, As a Tax payer I wonder there is only a consensus without a debate to raise their own Salaries and Perks, but no one has thought of, or spoken of Loss of Pay and Perks for disrupting the Parliament. Shows how selfish these Politicians are.

Seeking to blame the government for the partially washed out monsoon session, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blamed corruption for the lost session, and asserted that stalling parliament was also a form of democracy.
"I would like to remind the prime minister, when he was leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, they had stalled parliament over the Tehelka issue. Even over the coffin scam, they stalled parliament and called us coffin thieves," said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.
