Kolkata, Dec 27 (IANS): Dubbing the Congress-led UDF government as the "most corrupt" in the history of Kerala, CPI-M leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Sunday said forces of corruption and communalism have joined hands with casteist organisations against the Marxists.

Addressing a party rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds here, Communist Party of India-Marxist Kerala unit secretary Balakrishnan said the party and its mass organisations were engaged in a militant struggle against the "misrule" of the United Democratic Front.

"The UDF government is the most corrupt in the history of Kerala. There are scandals against UDF ministers, one after another," he said.

He pointed out that Kerala's then finance minister K.M. Mani had to resign after negative comments from the high court.

"The Kerala chief minister (Oommen Chandy) was forced to remove three of his personal staff for their involvement in a scam. He himself is under the scanner of a judicial commission and there are so many vigilance inquiries," Balakrishnan alleged.

Referring to the recent good showing of the CPI-M led Left Democratic Front in the Kerala local polls, he said that now 65 percent of village panchayats have presidents from the LDF.

"In Kerala, there is an unholy alliance for corporate finance. Forces of corruption and communalism have joined hands with casteist organisations against our party. But people of Kerala crushed this alliance in the local polls."

On the occasion, politburo member and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said Bengal will play a leading role in developing a strong Left democratic alternative that was the need for the country.

"For the sake of minorities, workers and the common people, for the sake of the SCs, STs, for everybody, the alternative of the Left forces will show a new path. This Left democratic alternate is not possible sans Bengal. We need to unite and strengthen the Left forces.

"The people of Bengal in the last five years have realised that the alternative to the Left is not Trinamool, it is only the Left Front. There can be no alternative," he said.

Claiming that people have grown disillusioned by the Trinamool, Sarkar harped on the need to reach out to such people.

"Disillusioned by the rule of the Trinamool, many are coming back to the Left fold. But we need to win over people beyond the Left fold. We need to reach out to those even in Trinamool who are opposing the dictatorial and violent tactics," added Sarkar.
