Mangalore, Aug 29: A Korean sailor who was suffering from myocardial infraction on-board a mercantile vessel has been rescued and hospitalised by coastguard personnel.

The coastguard on Monday got an SOS from the vessel "Nova Sea", a car carrier moving to Port Kelang in Korea from uae, saying one of its crew required urgent medical assistance.

A rescue vessel 'Kasturba Gandhi' was deployed immediately.

The rescue team shifted Choi Youngkwon to the vessel at sea about 153 nautical miles South-West of Mangalore, the coastguard said in a release here.

The sailor is undergoing treatment in a hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.
