Karkala, Aug 28: A school girl drowned in a lake while having bath along with her friend near Nitte village Panchayat office on Monday August 27 evening.
The deceased has been identified as Raksha (14), daughter of Balakrishna Shetty. She was studying in the 8th standard at Nitte Shankar Adyantaya Memorial School.
Raksha’s mother was not there at home when she had been to the lake along with her neighbouring friend Deeksha.
Meanwhile, Deeksha tried to rescue her. Her neighbour Geeta Shetty too rushed there to rescue her. But they could not save her. The neighbouring residents, who rushed to the spot immediately, rescued Deeksha and Geeta Shetty. Later, Deeksha and Geeta Shetty were admitted to a hospital at Karkala.
