Kerala Governor misses flight as pilot refuses to wait

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 23 (PTI): Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam failed to board an Air India flight from Kochi to the state capital after the pilot reportedly refused to wait for the dignitary and took off.

Raj Bhavan sources said the Governor reached Nedumbassery International airport about 10 minutes before the flight was to depart at 11:40 PM yesterday, but the "step ladder had been removed and the flight was pushing back".

According to the sources, the Governor was returning to the state capital after attending a function in Kozhikode. They were informed by Air India officials that the Delhi-Kochi -Thiruvanthapuram A1048 flight will take off at 1140 PM.

The delayed flight had yesterday reached Kochi airport at 10.58 PM and was to leave by 1140 PM.

"We got a communication from the airport that the flight will take off at 11.40 PM. However, when the Governor, accompanied by his wife reached the airport at 11.28 PM to board the flight, we saw the step ladder had been removed and the flight was pushing back," the sources told PTI.

AI officials were waiting at the ladder point with the Governor's boarding pass. The sources said though the Air India manager had informed the pilot that the Governor was arriving, he refused to wait for him and closed the door.

When contacted, the airport sources said the Governor had reached the tarmac when the flight was at the "push back stage and the doors were closed".

Raj Bhavan sources said they would be taking up the matter with appropriate authorities even as Air India sources said they were looking into the matter.

After an overnight stay at Kochi, the Governor reached the state capital by road this morning. Two years ago, the then Governor Nikhil Kumar had also faced a similar situation.

Oliver..are you a chamcha of politicians? Look at the time of take off and what time governor reached? Rules are same for everybody. It's a flight and not a KSRTC bus. Also, it's not a service bus from Mangalore to Udupi..

Rightly said Mr.Lobo!. 'Time & Tide waits for None'. This pilot should be a roll model for other pilots. So that next time when a VVIP goes to airport he is at mercy of 'Pilot', but not time.

The Captain is a hero to be
    highly honored with for his
    fine action.

There are many passengers in each
flight to get the connection flight, and other emergency
situations to be faced with but
the politicians are too lazy and
getting late to report to board the
plane but acting like the airline is their charted or own aircraft.

If the Air India is trying to punish the pilot for his brave
    and prompt action
from New Delhi, we all must raise
our voice to teach these be all and
end all politicians to teach a good
lesson to be prompt and on time to
    board the plane.

It is wrong on the part of pilot for not having allowed the Governor to board the flight when he was waiting in the airport before the scheduled time of departure.

    Dear Vincent
Flight was scheduled for 11.40 and Governer reached @ 11.28 just 10-12 minute before.
This is not bus service to tell he was reached before schedule as gate will close 30 min. before departure.

what ever pilot done is absoulutely correct and other pilots are may follow him, politician may from congress / BJP or from any party. because of 1 person they should not make wait 40-45 peoples.

I think pilot did no mistake here.
But it was a courtesy call. Pilot should have accommodated him since there were vacant seats?
Yes sometimes it is painful to wait for babus. You have seen it in some govt. offices. How officers make poor people to wait and postpone the work even if it takes hardly few minutes.
Height of frustration! So pilot closed the doors. He did right thing. Be punctual.

    Respect to the Pilot...

He dint bother who the person was to board the flight, he strictly followed the rule.....

Hereafter, Justice P Sathasivam will be on time to board the flight.

Would be good if all the police in the country have the same attitude as the pilot bothering for no-one and sticking to the rule..

    Good going..........

Jeevan Anna please also read last line which mentions that something similar had happened two years ago too when Modi Raj was limited to Gujarat only. System cannot be changed by politicians. It needs to be changed by each one of us. This one pilot followed his conscience. But there are still hundreds of pilots who still follow the Khadis, Khakis and Babus. Don't draw conclusions based on your personal affiliations.

Well done by the Pilot by not giving any special concession to this VVVVIP thereby eliminating any safety risk and inconvenience of other "normal" (and paying) passengers. Hope Air India remains firm and not take any action against the honest pilot.

Rules can not be same. Law changes from court to court. Verdict changes as you move higher courts. Here there is no rule because here cars can move without drivers and kill people.
