HC seeks report from government, police on boy's death


New Delhi, Dec 23 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Delhi government, police and the Public Works Department (PWD) while taking suo moto cognizance of the death of a school boy who fell into an open sewer pit at the Millennium Park.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath sought a response from the Delhi government, PWD and the police officer in charge of Sarai Kale Khan area by February 10 on steps they propose to take so that such incidents do not recur.

A 12-year-old Class VI student died after falling into the pit near a bus depot at the Millennium Park on Monday. He was returning from a picnic, and drowned before his teachers could seek help.

While the police have initiated a probe, the school said it had taken disciplinary action against two teachers.
