Man held with silver near Bangladesh border


Kolkata, Dec 22 (IANS): The BSF on Tuesday apprehended a man near the international border in West Bengal's Nadia district for trying to smuggle silver valued at nearly Rs.15 lakh to Bangladesh, an officer said.

The man was held by troopers of the 113th battalion of the Border Security Force during a special operation near the Gede border outpost.

"Jaideep Biswas was intercepted by a special patrol team while he was attempting to smuggle 14.19 kg of silver ornaments to Bangladesh. The value of the seized metal is Rs.4.88 lakh," said BSF's Deputy Inspector General R.P.S. Jaswal.

The BSF has so far in the year seized nearly 168 kg of silver and apprehended 22 smugglers across the South Bengal frontier.
