Ram Jethmalani to appear for Kejriwal in case filed by Jaitley

New Delhi, Dec 21, 2015 (PTI) : Noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani will represent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the civil and criminal defamation suits filed against him by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Jaitley today filed both civil and criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders for allegedly defaming him and sought Rs 10 crores in damages and their prosecution for offences that entails a punishment of upto two years in jail.

"Ram Jethmalani will appear before court for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal," a senior official of the Chief Minister's office told PTI.

The official said Kejriwal will seek day-to-day hearing in the case. Earlier, a defiant Kejriwal asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party will not be scared by defamation suits against him and other AAP leaders by Jaitley and asked him to prove his innocence before the one-man Commission of Inquiry announced by Delhi Government to probe alleged irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association.

The Chief Minister also slammed BJP for protecting the Finance Minister despite facing charges of alleged irregularities during his tenure as DDCA chief for around 13 years till 2013.

"I would have taken resignation if there were so much evidence against any of my ministers as I had taken the resignation of Jitender Singh Tomar and Asim Khan. BJP is shamelessly defending Jaitley.

"By filing defamation case, Jaitley is trying to hurt himself. He is caught in his own web," Kejriwal said in a series of tweets.

"Jaitley should not try to scare us by filing cases against us. Our battle against corruption shall continue. Jaitley ji should cooperate with the Commission of Inquiry and prove his innocence there," Kejriwal tweeted.

The Chief Minister's decision to brazen it out became clear last night itself as the other AAP leaders named by Jaitley in his defamation suit had stuck to their guns and continued to target the Finance Minister.

    Arvind Kejriwal is a person on mission....! All the duel life of these politicians he will clean it. At present income of the politicians increasing by 1,000% every 5 years and we are not bothered...? Do you think they are sincere to the nations..? Even poling committee, courts.. no one is asking them what is the logic behind this increase.. Mr.Bhansal,Railway minister caught with recruitment scam red handedly and do the court did its job to prosecute him..? NO..
    Did the reliance got prosecuted for swan telecomuni.in 2G spectrum case...? NO..
    Did the law did anything to Reddy brothers other than keeping inside the jail...? NO..

    Did the law confiscated their property..? NO..

    Where is the loot gone..?Anybody knows...? NO...

    No one knows..Then why cant we give a chance to Mr.Arvind Kejriwal if he is doing some small small good things for the country.... I will never go on party line only corruption and issue based politics..

    Arun Jaitley is a corrupt politician and if he has little bit of shame left in him, he has to keep quite. Arvind Kejriwal is a sincere to the nation person apart from the politics he is playing... He is clean and more and more people like him should join the politics and one day you will see a clean and transparent Parliament in Delhi....!

    It looks foolish for Jaitely to adopt the Jayalalitha mode of rushing to the court with the defamation complaint. Politicians fight their battles through elections and not in court rooms. The right thing to do is to contest for Parliament from Delhi from an area that includes Kejriwal's assembly seat.

    Its nice gesture that in BJP nobody wants to save the culprits (in their own party) whoever it may be. But in dongi congis, all leaders are boot lickers and supporting their corrupt leaders and stopping the development of nation.
    After Modi coming into power, there is no corruption at all in Centre. All these corruptions (as claimed by others) are made before NDA coming into power. If it is proved then Arun Jaitley has to resign from his post.

    As advocated by Kejriwala before the public his party is clean,honest,simple,never waste public money and free of fraud,such being the case why he should worry about his statement against Jetley,If he is so honest and true why he should hire a super expensive lawyer Ram Jetmalani to defend him.
