Dec 16 gang rape victim's parents detained, police deny

New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): The parents of the December 16, 2012 gang rape victim said Delhi Police on Saturday detained them for protesting outside the reformation home against the release of the juvenile convict. Police, however, denied they were detained.

They were protesting outside the reformation home in Majnu Ka Tilla where the juvenile was remanded after the Juvenile Justice Board sent him for reformation for three years.

"We all were forcefully dumped in a bus and kept at the Maurice Nagar police station under detention for half an hour. We were later allowed to go," the gang rape victim's father Badrinath told IANS.

Delhi Police, however, denied the allegation, saying the gang rape victim's parents were not detained.

"We did not detain the gang rape victim's parents. We gently asked them to leave the place. They themselves were ready to board the police bus along with other protesters. They were taken to the Maurice Nagar police station and were free to go," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told IANS.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the detention a "shocking" incident.

"I am shocked to learn that Nirbhaya's parents have been detained. They should immediately be released," Kejriwal tweeted.

In another tweet, Kejriwal said: "Police action against Nirbhaya's parents is unacceptable. I have asked chief secretary to talk to police commissioner and get them released."

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also said: "It is too much. Why has police detained Nirbhaya's parents. They have all right to peacefully protest. They should be immediately released."

The convict is now 20 years old. He was a juvenile in 2012 when he along with five other accused committed the gang rape in a moving bus in the capital.

The court found him guilty of raping and assaulting the victim along with five accomplices.

Sources said the juvenile was shifted to some undisclosed location a day before his release on Sunday.

because the US Government is not busy with cow politics and other nonsensical issues. They focus their attention on the needs of their citizens.
Here cow politics is more important than human beings.

yes declan, since 1947 all govt not focused their attention on the needs of their citizens. They just focused on their own profit. Waitress became owner of multicrore Rs.
a guy who cant speak 2 lines of his own became "yuvaraja" of a party.
    sleeping guy became CM.

    finally "CONGRESS" became "SCAMGRESS"
result: 6 people got bail in 5 minutes in 2000 crore Rs. scam.

i know u r keen to add more if not Mr. Joseph will do with his shayari.

so we all have hope in current govt. current govt is doing good compare to previous govts.

    Hussain/ Declan,

In US prisons are privatised. That means they are being run as a business. The way those make profit is by getting paid for the inmates housed by them.

Companies that run the prisons make campaign donations/or lobby to the members of the congress to write the laws so that they can convict and incarcerate as many people as possible.

You can wish our system was like them, but that system also has a huge problem. US has highest incarceration rate of any major country. People can get jailed for minor offenses because there is incentive for having as many inmates in jail as possible. Bails are set at very high. Many of the laws in US are quite absurd. Take this for instance.. The maximum punishment for getting caught with drugs is 50 years. But if you commit murder, then rape and then do terrorism your sentence would be same are getting caught with drugs. Thats absurd.

One thing is common anywhere in the world is that rich get away with crime a lot more than poor.

Eg: one incident that happened in UK, a rich saudi businessman who was accused of rape, claimed in his defence that he accidently tripped and fell on the victim and rape happened... and guess what... he was acquitted.

We are in the 2015 and everything has changed but not the laws in the Indian Constitution. This man is the main culprit. Age did not affect him. He was more matured than the others and hence done this heinous crime. He deserves the worst punishment. Why release him? Keep him in the jail and let him learn and earn there. This will be a lesson to all. Rapes are still happening why because they know they will come out of jail in few years and till then can stay in and enjoy the treatment.
Will these people who have the authority to do the amendments, can bear this trauma if it happens to their daughter or wife? Think over it.
God please give the strength to this govt. to have a proper understanding and amend the law. I do not ask to kill him or beat him but keep him in to learn to be a good individual.

And our Central government is more interested in banning beef and bringing in laws that will divided communities instead of updating ancient laws to protect every citizen of the country irrespective of religion, caste, gender, language, economic status, education etc.
Shame on this Central government and it's leader.

Why to waste huge tax payer money to protect the b....td. Instead of taking him undisclosed location, encounter him. Delhi police, do something good for the society at least now by eliminating the rough. If your dept acted promptly on the first person compliant who was robbed by the same group, three years before, this whole episode would have been not there

What a justice to the broken hearted parents. It's will be a sad day and their heart will completely broken if this rapist and a big time murderer is allowed to walk free. Surely he will commit some more act. At least publish his photo in every corner of this earth,so people can keep themselves away from this notorious man.
