Four gunned down in UP over political rivalry

Lucknow, Dec 19 (IANS): Four people were shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah on Saturday, apparently as a result of a simmering political rivalry, police said.

The incident took place in Bankati village of Jaswantnagar when a verbal spat turned ugly between two rival groups, leading to one side opening indiscriminate fire.

While four people -- Guddu Yadav, Asharam, Devendra Singh and Dhaniram -- were killed, four others were injured and admitted to a medical facility in Saifai, the native village of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Police said the incident took place as a result of some issue following the recent panchayat polls.

No one has been arrested so far.
