Youth lynched in Jammu's Reasi, seven held


Jammu, Dec 13 (IANS): A young man died of severe beating on Sunday in Reasi district and his friend received critical injuries after they allegedly entered a house in the night to meet a girl. Police arrested seven people for the incident.

Rahul Kumar and Abhishek, both aged 21 and belonging to Udhampur town, entered a house on Saturday night in Bhagta village near Katra town to meet the girl, Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar told reporters here.

"The girl's uncle saw the two and raised a hue and cry, after which the villagers gathered and beat them up severely with batons," the police officer said.

Police from Katra rushed the critically injured youth to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu where doctors pronounced Rahul dead.

A case was lodged at the Katra police station.

After the youth's death, sections of the penal code pertaining to culpable homicide were added to the first information report, the police officer said.
