Naidu slams Congress for dragging PMO in National Herald issue

Chennai, Dec 12 (PTI): Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today ridiculed Congress for dragging the Prime Minister's office in the National Herald issue and accused the party of fighting a legal battle in Parliament.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister had faced the charges against him and even "grilling by SIT" in a dignified manner and BJP had not disrupted Parliament then.

Dismissing Congress' claims of political vendetta, he told reporters here that when Subramanian Swamy filed the case in 2012, he was not a member of BJP and UPA was in power and Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister.

As Congress party was now claiming that the Prime Minister's Office was behind it, he said "does it (Congress) mean to say that Dr Manmohan Singh had organised all this?"
"Government is nowhere in the picture, let me make it very clear but Congress party is trying to fight a legal batle in Parliament instead of fighting it in court," he said.

"Enforcement Directorate has not isued any notice to them, income tax authorities will only follow their own procedure and the government has not passed any order whatsoever and has no role in this entire episode of National Herald," he said.

"We would like to know from Congress, are they fighting a legal battle in Parliament," he said.

On December 9, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had said the National Herald case is "hundred per cent political vendetta coming out of PMO."

Naidu said "I don't think anywhere in the country a politician (Modi) was grilled for eight hours." "Modi had dignifiedly handled the charges against him including questioning by the Special Investigation Team" over the 2002 riots when he was Gujarat Chief Minister.

"He (Modi) had politely answered all questions by the SIT for eight hours. Court exonerated him, he never used parliamentary forum, he never mobilised people to demonstrate, had he given a call, lakhs of people would have followed him but he did not do it because we respect Constitution, judiciary and the system," he said.

Also, he referred to charges against BJP president Amit Shah, his imprisonment and how his party had not disrupted Parliament over all such issues.

Stating that if at all Congress felt that it was a battle, Naidu said it has to be fought legally and it has to be taken up in court.

"The issue has to be sorted out in courts not on the streets, not in Parliament, it has to be argued in courts."

He appealed to Congress and and its friends not to do now what they had done in the monsoon session "a washout" and listed key legislative businesses on wait including GST which would "bring prosperity to the country."

It was "surprising" that Congress members disrupted proceedings though their party chief had claimed that she was not disturbed by the court order (summons) on the issue.

Seeking to draw a parallel between the protests after a court ruling against Indira Gandhi in 1975 by Congress following which the Emergency was clamped and now over the Herald case, he said "now Congress seems to be back to its old tricks."

Naidu will visit flood-hit areas tomorrow here and is scheduled to distribute welfare assistance.

National Herald case in a nut shell.
National herald (NH) was started during 1930s by nehru and was publishing news paper.During the course of time it accumulated land and wealth of 5000crs.
In 2000s it went into loss and had 90crs debt. NH's directors Sonia ,Rahul, and Motilal vohra decided to sell it to Young India Ltd. Now the funny part, Young India's directors were Sonia, Rahul, Oscar farnandes and motilal vohra. Deal was that young India would clear NH's 90cr loan and in return get assets worth 5000 cr.To strike this deal motilal vohra spoke to motilal vohra bcoz he was director of both companies. Now comes the twist,
To clear the 90 cr debt, young Indian, asks Congress party to give loan of 90 cr. So congress calls a meeting , party president, VP, gen sec, treasurer attends it. Who are these ppl ?? Sonia, Rahul, Oscar and motilal vohra respectively. Congress gives loan. Who approves it, treasurer, motilal vohra. So congress treasurer vohra, gives loan to young India, its director vohra takes it and gives it to NH director vohra. Hold on the fun doesn't stop here. Next day congress party calls meeting, who attends it ?Sonia, Rahul, Oscar, vohra . they decide that NH has done lot of service to the country during freedom fight, let's write off the loan. So 90cr loan is written off. Young India with 36% share held by sonia and Rahul each , rest owned by Oscar and vohra gets property worth 5000cr, including 11 stories flat at bahadur shah zafar marg in Delhi, which is rented out to passport office and other offices.
Wow this is what is called creation. Creating everything out of nothing. 5000crs out of thin air!!!

BJP is going to bite dust in this National Herald case.
If all proceeds thereof can only go to a ‘not-for-profit’ company and can never be legally distributed among its shareholders/ Managing Committee members,
Surely this case is filed by BJP indulging in political vendetta.
Good that INC has taken a very aggressive stance on this case!

    Dear Valerian,
Ever since the BJP came to power after May 2014 they have spent most of their time in vendetta politics which has no benefit for the common man but only serving vested interests. Investigation of Netaji Bose files is a classic example of this. PM Modi could do well to understand that someday in the future when he is no more in power or even maybe 50 years from now people could also re-investigate the post Godhra riots and his role in those riots.

If one tries to dig dirt on others from long past history be sure the same will be done to one.
What goes around comes around !

he he... vendetta only when the big corrupt family is involved? Modi was haunted and not left to sleep even a day for last 13 years and that is not vendetta? The truth prevaild in modi case..but here the highly corrupt people are facing the heat and someone here is praying that the case be fallen off.. . law does not care whether someone is 2 billion rich or just owns a piece of land... criminals have to face the law and people must have guts to face the truth

PM Modi using crazy swamy's shoulder to fire.
Swamy mind is nothing but a junk yard. Nothing good ever comes out from dirty mind.
National Herald founded by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1937.
When it was incurring losses, INC stepped in to support in the form of interest-free loans totaling Rs 90 crore.
‘Young Indian’ a non profit Section 25 company’ acquired this Rs 90 crore loan from INC with a view to revive the newspaper.
INC took adequate precaution, looked at all the legal aspect of the case and ensured it didn't violate any law in India.
Let's wait and watch what happens!

    Hi Valerian,
"‘Young Indian’ a non profit Section 25 company’ acquired this Rs 90 crore loan from INC with a view to revive the newspaper."

First of all i want to let you know that a political party is not entitled to give loan to any person / organisation / trust.

second, loan given from INC to young India is not returned back and its forefited.

third, if they are legally right, let them fight in court, instead of attending court they are giving false reason and wasting crores of Tax payers money.

Ofcourse, the case is filed against the accused and the law will decide their fate. Was there any disruption in parliament when a case was filed against these atrocities? Why is congress protesting in parliament when a fraud case is filed against gandhi family? Are they beneficiaries?

Beneficiaries or not is not the question here. That is something the courts will anyway decide. The question here is that the case is motivated by vendetta politics/harassment rather than getting at the truth. Subbu Swamy has great love for the truth only when it is to be used against political opponents however, he does not seem to be interested in the truth when it comes to his own party or own interests/agenda. The BJP used the parliament forum to disrupt government business when they were in opposition very regularly for all kinds of reasons, valid or silly in our opinion.
The Congress party are only doing in opposition now what the BJP taught them to do when they were in opposition.

Congress is making unnecessary allegations. If Vadra can be a 'Private individual' and party support him, then why can't BJP support a 'Private complainant' Swamy's claims? Double standards really, now Dongi stands clearly exposed. There is a U Turn by Pappu yday night too

Oh Venku, Modi is as innocent as an angel then than he is now. Being the then CM and head of the state of Gujarat he was completely unaware of the situation of international caliber and lasted for weeks and thousands died yet he didn't lift his finger to put an early stop but let it flare up and burn till ashes. And now as the PM and head of the country there is so much of atrocities, communalism and crime, people from all walks of life and prominent personalities are urging his intervention he is giving a blind eye and busy touring foreign countries and giving speeches about tolerance, unity and democracy to foreign audiences. Is he not a hypocrite and fake person, unfit to hold the position of PM. Can we trust him and his PMO????
