Sullia, Aug 23: The police have been successful in arresting the murder accused of Rekha (25), wife of Vithal Naika at Dodderi in Ajjavar village.

The arrested has been identified as Monappa (35), family friend of Vithal Naika. Police sources said that the illegal relation between Rekha and Monappa was the main cause behind this murder.

Monappa had been to Vithal's house on Saturday August 18 night when Vithal was not at home. After a little while Monappa expressed his desire to have physical relation with Rekha. But she did not agree and even threatened him that she would tell the matter with her husband. Fearing that he would be disgraced in the eyes of Vithal, Monappa went to one Rajiv's house which is nearby, brought a wooden club and hit Rekha on her head. As a result she died on the spot.

Thereafter he left the place via Dodderi handing bridge, hired an auto to the town and called Vithal and informed him that Rekha had been murdered by her father and brother-in-laws.  Though usually he spoke in Tulu, on that night he spoke in Kannada in order to hide his identity.

But he switched off his mobile and left the village.  When he was not found in the village, police had doubts about his involvement in the case. Hence they nabbed him from Subrahmanya and subjected him to interrogation during which he spilled the beans.
