Sonia, Rahul should face the law: Shahnawaz

Lucknow, Dec 10 (IANS): By holding up Parliament because its leaders had been called to answer charges in the National Herald case, the Congress party was disrespecting both judiciary and the legislature, BJPs national spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said on Thursday.

"By disrupting Parliament on the issue and calling the summons by the trial court political vendetta, Congress has proved that it believes in nothing," Hussain said in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

He said that rather than disrupting the winter session of Parliament, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi should face the law in the National Herald case.

Let the Gandhis and the Congress fight it out legally, he said.

"Everyone is equal before the law and nobody in the country is allowed privileges; the Gandhis should realise that."

Asked what he thought of the proposal made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav that Mulayam Singh Yadav be projected as prime minister and Rahul Gandhi as his deputy for bringing together the Congress and Samajwadi Party in a "secular" alliance, Hussain said Akhilesh was only being a "caring son".

The BJP spokesman said coming together in Uttar Pradesh of "secular" parties on the lines of Bihar's "grand alliance" was impossible and that the BJP was going to get a two-thirds majority in the assembly elections scheduled for early 2017.
