New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS): In a move that is expected to foster strong bonds among global media and PR professionals, the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI), the country's largest body of communicators, has initiated steps to form its international chapters.
Coinciding with the SAARC Charter Day celebrations on December 8, PRCI-i (International) on Tuesday announced plans to form its wing for seven of the eight member-countries of the regional grouping -- India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
PRCI-i also held a get together with media and PR professionals in Dubai over the last weekend to explore the modalities of forming a UAE chapter.
“PRCI is also promoting knowledge forums on various business and media platforms. In its endeavour to promote skill development, PRCI has initiated training programmes for upcoming PR professionals with the help of communication and media veterans across India," said the organisation’s national president and veteran media professional B.N. Kumar.
“Now we are keen to take this movement global,” he said.
In a first such move, PRCI has formed a Guest Faculty Pool with media and PR professionals to conduct practical training for mass communication students in Mumbai. The pool will now be set up in Bengaluru, Kochi, Pune and Delhi with the help of local professionals, B.N. Kumar said.
PRCI Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor M.B. Jayaram said: “It is a small step for PRCI and a giant leap for the communication world.”
“We have also simultaneously initiated moves to set up PRCI-i chapters in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, UK and USA,” said global wing Director T. Vinay Kumar.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, PRCI is the premier communication professionals’ organization with 25 Chapters pan-India.
Jayaram said PRCI will hold its 10th Global Communication Concave at Kolkata on January 22 and 23, next year with the theme “Digital Now - What Next”.
Over 500 PR, media, advertising and HR professionals from various countries, apart from academicians and mass communication students are expected to attend the conclave.
