Morocco arrests two IS-linked suspects


Rabat, Dec 9 (IANS): Moroccan police has arrested two suspects with links to the Islamic State (IS).

In the eastern city of Berkane the police arrested a suspect who pledged allegiance to the IS and was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in coordination with IS leaders in Iraq and Syria, Xinhua reported.

In another operation, police arrested a 19-year-old student for distributing publications propagating IS extremist ideology in the suburb of Marrakesh city.

The Interior Ministry said the suspects would be sent to court once interrogations end.

According to the Moroccan government, police have busted some 140 terrorist cells since 2002 and successfully foiled hundreds of terrorist plans. Over 2,200 individuals were arrested.
