BJP refuses to cancel Parrikar birthday bash for Chennai floods

Goa, Dec 7: The BJP today turned down the demand of opposition Congress party to cancel the birthday celebrations of union defence minister Manohar Parrikar owing to the recent Chennai floods.

"We will not cancel the celebrations. The event is low on finance. There is no much spending on the celebrations," BJP Goa spokesman Pramod Sawant told reporters today.

Parrikar will be celebrating his sixtieth birthday on December 13 this year. The party and his well wishers have planned a grand reception for the leader.

The congress party had demanded that the celebrations be cancelled in solidarity to the victims of Chennai flood.

"Congress is frustrated and wants to create hurdles in everything," Sawant said.

The BJP had attained success in 2012 Goa legislative assembly elections projecting Parrikar as the chief minister. Parrikar was elevated to the post of union minister following 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

    C’mon Mr Jeevan. Don’t be so ignorant. You say RSS involved themselves in Chennai flood relief work. May I ask how? Did they apply the same MODUS OPERANDI which they did during the Gujarat earthquake?
    C’mon now don’t tell me you do not know. But just in case you don’t then let me enlighten you. The so called RSS or the like outfits infamously attacked the consignment that arrived from the Red Cross Society and injured their representatives, snatched the cartons containing various aid, stripped their labels from the cartons and put their own labels and distributed the aid.
    This happened during the Gujarath earthquake, way back in the Nineties.
    Guys! This is the way how RSS contributes to the relief work – may it be any kind of natural catastrophe.

    Firstly, this same BJP had criticized the Siddu government for similar things citing there is drought in state and CM is celebrating! . Secondly, everywhere its said Parrikar is a simple down to earth person who travels pillion rider in scooter, travels second class in trains, travels economy in flight etc etc! How come he didn't object to this official birthday bash which may see spending of many crores of tax payers money!. Finally what is the necessity to celebrate birthday officially?

    In rural Gujarat ( 70 % of the voters ) the Congress has bagged most panchayats in the recent elections. This will be a shock to the BJP, the political front / arm of the RSS.

    All celebrations like marriages can't be cancelled by everybody.

    I totally agree with you. The World has come to know how BJP marketed their campaign. Every PM has a dream but it cannot be fulfilled. managing a country like India is not like managing a state. The political compulsions are different in every state.
