Mangalore, Aug 21: A rare surgery of total hip replacement was performed by a team of expert orthopedic surgeons at Padmavathi Hospital, Suratkal near here.

Malathi, 48, was ailing from a severe hip joint pain for a long time. The pain had been so bad that she could not even move. She then approached orthopedic surgeon Dr Muralidhar Neelava. On examination, the doctor identified that the patient was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis in an advanced stage and the only alternative was surgery, according to a press release by the medical director of the hospital.

A team of doctors headed by Muralidhar Neelavar and Mahendra Ullal, both Orthopedic surgeons, and Girish Bhat, anaesthesiologist, performed a unique surgery by replacing her hip.
