Rains start to batter Chennai again

Chennai, Dec 4 (IANS): After one-and-a-half days, rains started to lash Chennai again on Friday evening, causing more worry to residents already suffering from torrential rains and floods.

Rains abated on Thursday and the early part of Friday, providing much needed relief to the city. There was bright sunshine in the morning and many shops opened after being shut for two days.

According to the weather department, the low pressure over Southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast persists.

Rains or thundershowers have been forecast at many places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Saturday.

The rains and floods have killed around 325 people in Chennai, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts. Chennai has been declared a disaster zone.
