Modi announces Rs.1,000 crore relief to flood-hit Tamil Nadu


Chennai, Dec 3 (PTI): PM Modi on Thursday announced Rs.1,000 crore to carry out flood relief operations in Tamil Nadu. This will be over and above Rs.940 crore given by the Centre earlier.

PM made the announcement after an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts.

Earlier, before emplaning for Tamil Nadu, Modi tweeted, "Leaving for Chennai to take stock of the situation arising due to the devastating floods."

The Centre has described the situation in Chennai as "worrisome" and promised support to the state government in its hour of crisis.

Modi had also earlier spoken to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
