Rajya Sabha adjourned over Kumari Selja's remark

New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS): The Rajya Sabha was on Thursday adjourned for half an hour after the house witnessed an uproar over former Congress minister Kumari Selja's remark that she was asked about her caste at a temple in Gujarat.

The government and the opposition locked horns on Wednesday as the treasury benches sought to contradict Selja's claim of having faced caste discrimination at the temple when she was a union minister.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 11.44 a.m.

On Wednesday, Leader of the House Arun Jaitley referred to Selja's comment made during the discussion on constitution that she was once enquired about her caste at a temple in Dwarka.

Jaitley said that contrary to her claim, Selja's comments in the visitors' book of the temple were full of "complimentary words".
