Rock Concert:

The YES club members will present a 'Soul Sync' rock concert. The ‘YES’ (Youth Empowerment Seminar) which is a program designed by the Art of Living guru Sri Sri Ravishankar to capture the imagination of the youth and channelise their energies and capabilities into building strong personalities. This in turn is going to be a positive step towards nation building, said B N R Rao while speaking to the media on Friday, 17 August.

According to him the YES club members of Mangalore, were the pioneers who discovered that spirituality is great fun and empowering, and are now eagerly offering the youth of Mangalore a new package "Soul Sync", a rock concert by Sahil Jagtiani, a London based singer.

Young Civil Engineer Award:

Applications are invited from civil engineers for ‘B. R. Samaga Young Civil Engineer Award for 2007’ given by the Institution of Engineers, Mangalore chapter, as per a press release.

The award will be given away at a gala function to be held on September 15 which is also the Engineers’ Day. Civil engineers aged below 50 years could apply or could be nominated. Applications or nominations may be forwarded to Grihashilpa, Srinivas Complex, Surathakal - 575025 on or before August 27.

Sanskrit Competitions:
 
`Sanskritha saptaha" will be observed here from August 25 to August 31 and it is being organized by Sanskrita Bharathi, an association involved in the promotion of Sanskrit, stated a press release.

As part of the celebration they will be organising different competitions for school children and pre-university students during the said week long schedule. A stage function and music programme will also be held at the town hall on August 27. For details please call 2496277.

Talk by Minister - date advanced:

Minister for fisheries and endowment B. Nagaraja Shetty will be giving a lecture on "`Development of Dakshina Kannada district" at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry on August 20. Earlier this programme had been fixed for August 21. The same had been advanced to Monday, August 20.

Free Screening Camp in KMC:

The KMC hospital at Ambedkar circle will be conducting a free screening camp for patients with chronic cough, breathlessness and chronic bronchitis on August 21, 22 and 23 from 9 am to 1 pm.

As per their press release, chronic bronchitis is one of the most common chronic lung diseases which is mainly caused due to smoking. The disease is on the rise due to worsening of air pollution and indoor pollution due to exposure to household fuels. Unlike asthma this disease once fully developed cannot be fully reversed with treatment.

The said camp will be conducted by HoD of chest medicine Dr R C Sahoo and the other consultants Dr Anand, Dr Vishak Acharya and Dr Preetham. The patients registered for the camp can avail investigations at concessional rate during the subsequent visit. For further details please contact 0824-2445858.
 
Rajiv Gandhi Birth Anniversary:

The District Youth Congress here will be organizing different programmes to celebrate the 64th birth anniversary of the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20. Youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath Shetty stated here on Saturday 18 August, that a blood donation camp will be held at Belthangady and fruits will be distributed at various hospitals and orphanages.

The Teachers' Talent Contest:

The Rotaract club, Mangalore Central Rotary club, Mangalore will be organising a teachers talent competition at Canara Girls High School, Dongerkery on August 19 at 9 am. KSHEMA professor of medicine B Devadas Rai will be the chief guest.
