Petrol cheaper by 58 paise, diesel 25 paise

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI): The price of petrol was today cut by 58 paise per litre and that of diesel by 25 paise, reversing the trend of increasing rates, on global cues.

Petrol will cost Rs 60.48 per litre from mid-night tonight in Delhi as against Rs 60.70 a litre currently.

A litre of diesel will cost Rs 46.55 from tomorrow compared with the Rs 46.80 now, said Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the nation's biggest fuel retailer.

The price cut more than reverses the hike of 36 paise a litre in petrol rates effected on November 16, the first increase in five months. Similarly, in the case of diesel, it reverses the three rounds of hikes since October -- the last being 87 paise a litre on November 16.

"The current level of international product prices of petrol and diesel and rupee-dollar exchange rate warrants a decrease in prices, the impact of which is being passed on to consumers with this price revision," IOC said in a statement here.

Prior to the November 16 hike, petrol price had been slashed on four occasions -- by Rs 2.43 on August 1, Rs 1.27 on August 16, Rs 2 on September 1 and 50 paise on November 1.

Diesel rates were not changed on November 1, but hiked by 95 paise on October 16 and 50 paise on October 1. Rates of diesel were last cut by 50 paise on September 1.

State-owned fuel retailers -- IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) -- revise petrol and diesel prices on 1st and 16th of every month based on average imported cost and rupee-dollar exchange rate in the previous fortnight.

"The movement of prices in the international oil market and INR-USD exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes," the IOC statement added.

    Dear Haneef/Mohammed.

presently the crude comes to around Rs 20 per litre and refining costs transportation charges etc comes to around Rs 10. this rs 10 will be constant. around rs 30 goes to central and state taxes. this also will be constant since the duties are charged per litre and not on the value of petrol sold. around rs 2.5 goes to the bunk operator as commission this is also constant. so how can prices be proportionately reduced?. however i do concede that there has been increase in excise duty increasing the costs by rs 8/ litre. there are some countries which do not charge tax at all and hence the prices there are cheap and some countries give subsidy too. my moot point was asking proportionate reduction on account of crude price reduction is not logically justified.

IF THE CRUDE PRICE REDUCTION IS NOT LOGICALLY JUSTIFIED THEN START AGITATION IMMEDIATELY AND MAKE BHARATH BANDH FOR INCREASING PETROL PRICES.

Why there is no Bharat Bandh and justifications for increasing Petrol prices???!!!

Mr Haneef, are u running ur vehicle on crude oil? if u can run ur vehicle on crude oil, then u can expect proportionate decrease. remember there is logistics cost of bringing the crude oil and there is refining costs to convert the crude into petrol and diesel. these costs have not changed. please also remember the excise duties are not charged on advolerem basis and are charged on quantity basis.

Arrey Congi Baba..munna, nitte/karla...If you see i have shared the amount of increase whenever there was increase and decrease in petrol prices. We know the crude oil prices currently. If you thinking on comparing of the Crude and petrol prices then you should have been still in class 1.India is under a lot of debt. When the oil prices rise, the government doesn't want to take up more loss, but when the price falls, they increase the excise duty on oil, thereby limiting the fall in price on customer. This way they are collecting more revenue which means faster end to the debt.
For example if you are in a whole lot of debt and suddenly you get a lot of money, would you spend it recklessly or would you clear the debt first? Get my point?
Oil price fall is an opportunity for the government to improve India's financial condition.

Liabilities, Insurance and environmental regulation related expenses are very high. Diesel is more expensive than petrol. To transport oil to India, India has its own Shipping corporation of India and geographically too close to oil exporting countries like Iran, Arabia & Russia.
America does not import oil from unregulated sources like ISIS, Consumption of petrol products are down due to Electric/Highbred/Hydrogen fuel/Natural gas/Zero emission vehicles and energy efficiency regulations in manufacturing/Buildings/Industries etc. America gets it oil from its oil producing states like Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, California Alaska etc. with new horizontal drilling technology,
If Previous UPA Administration was able to sell petrol at Rupees 67 while the oil price was at record high at $ 120plus per barrel, Why NDA can’t sell petrol for Rupees 35 when oil price is at record Low $ 42 per barrel?

what do you mean by the statement "labour in india is almost free...."?true,labour is costly in usa but labour cost in india is not cheap either.

i am just giving a quote below by russian president putin in todays news article and you judge about it

    QUOTE:
Russian President Vladimir Putin today accused Ankara of shooting down a Russian warplane to protect supplies of oil from the Islamic State group to Turkey.

"We have every reason to think that the decision to shoot down our plane was dictated by the desire to protect the oil supply lines to Turkish territory," Putin said during a news conference on the fringes of UN climate talks near Paris.

Hahaha....One day increasing 1 Rupee per litre and some days later reducing 25 Paise. Modi bhakths are very happy. During UPA regime crude oil price was $120 per barrel but now it is just $42. Still the Petrol, Diesel price is approximate same if we compare 2 years ago. In Dubai Petrol is sold for approximate Rs.15 per litre in retail outlets but why it is 4 times more in India? What is the Modi's achievement on Oil price and where is Ache din???

As long as we are peaceful to burn the economy by fuel, inhale the polluted air, bear sound pollution and sky high costs nothing will change.
Otherwise, we have the excellent opportunity to utilize the massive weight of commuters and goods on wheels as a powerful pushing which can generate a considerable volume of free and clean energy.
In the meantime, it can eliminate fuel consumption and solve all problems of surface transport sector.
Let's think different and implement change to have a rapid revolution.

    Dear Raj, Bangalore,

At the time of UPA regime the petrol prices have gone up to $130-$140 in the international market which was a peak rate.

And now you tell me honestly at what rate petrol was available in India under MMS UPA till 2013

And now in the international market the petrol prices are:

    Crude Oil and Commodity Prices
    December, Tuesday 1 2015 - 03:44:07

    $41.65 crude oil per Barrel.
&44.61 Brent crude oil per Barrel.

Now if you and the literates cow government tell us What should be the Rate of Petrol as of today in the Indian Market comparing to UPA regime.

I AM AWAITING FOR YOUR HONEST ANSWER AND NOT FEKU ANSWER.

Do you think the revenue out of petrol is only to buy Crude oil ? Govt cannot blindly cut down the prices as per the crude oil rates. We still have around $450 billion as debt. Dont think only petrol versus crude...think out of it also..

    People,

Retail Petrol price in US now is $1.95 per US Gallon(3.75 Liter)...becomes around Rs35 per Liter...

Why we need to sell it nearly double the US retail rate in India???...please ask Modi and his finance minister Jhoot Lee...

Also private sector oil barons like Ambani and Adani's need to be properly investigated for their roles in jacking up the prices deliberately to profit these thugs...at the cost of common people of India...

Moily and CONgress were doing the same(in gas scam)...now if BJP is doing the same then what is the change BJP brought after May 2014???

About Dawood Ibrahims presence in Pakistan same answers BJP gives in parliament as that of CONgress...no difference...

So could BJP tell us what is the difference between your rule and CONgress rule in major issues please? other than your colourful Bhashaans??

India gets most of it's petrol very cheep from Iran & Russia on Rupees account due to the restrictions placed on Russia & Iran by Western nations. It is a huge savings in Foreign exchange for India. Petrol is expensive in America due to special blend for winter and summer, High octane purity of petrol, Government regulations,Labor & transportation cost to refine petrol in America is very high. Still the cost of petrol is 50% down comparing to year 2014. India/Ambani/Adani may be making in billions due to current world oil market.

    there may be 3 reasons:

1.indian oil companies were telling from past 10 years that they were in loss as processing and lubricating crude oil has become expensive and they were taking a beating of arround rs1 for every litre of petrol/diesel sold in india.to compensate this govt may have kept the price to moderate level.

    2:distance and influence:
india always argues that transportaion of crude oil is expensive and that cost has to be recovered in oil price.

3:some international newspapers have speculated that, isis is selling billions of barrels of oil in its captured territory to bilal, son of turkey president erdogan at dirt cheap rate and this oil is being sold to usa and europe at rock bottom price.india does not have that luxury or influence to buy oil at that cheap rate as turkey is doing all this connivingly with usa and europe.that is the reason usa/eu may be having two minds in dealing aggressively with isis.

4:even if the oil price is reduced to rs 35 in india,it is predicted that world oil rate will again surge during later half of 2016 to more than $120/barrel.at that time india cant rise the price suddenly from 35 inr to 85 inr as it will face wrath of citizens.
last but not the least even if indian govt is selling the oil at a higher rate than it should have, the money will go to indian treasury and will be used to increase the reserves or waive off the countries debts or used for public spending.
