We will bring back Aamir Khan if he goes out of India: Ramdas Athawale

Bhopsl, Nov 30 (PTI): Days after actor Aamir Khan's 'intolerance' remarks kicked up a storm, Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athawale on Sunday said even if the actor leaves the country, his party cadre will bring him back.

"If Aamir goes abroad to settle, our cadre will bring him back. If he needs protection, our workers will stand by his side and throw a cover around him," Mr Athawale told reporters in Bhopal.

At an event in Delhi last week, the actor had said that he was "alarmed" by what was happening around and that his wife expressed fear for their child in the country.

Meanwhile, on the concerns of "growing intolerance" in the country, Mr Athawale said the issue was being "blown out of proportion" and that the Congress, which is reckless after being booted out of power at the Centre, won't succeed to gain mileage over the topic.

Praising the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, he said the Centre is working towards the upliftment of downtrodden, including Dalits.

The RPI chief said his party wants the Slum Protection Act to be enacted in the country to ensure that people living in shanties aren't often displaced.

"In case, the slum-dwellers are displaced for execution of some development work, they should be provided shelter elsewhere under the Slum Protection Act," he added.
