Goa, Aug 18: Dr Sachin Tendulkar working with Mineral Foundation of Goa as a program manager has been selected for widely acclaimed Fulbright Indo American Environmental Leadership Program (IAELP) Fellowship.

The Governing Board of Mineral Foundation has congratulated him on this prestigious achievement and permitted him to undertake this three month fellowship at Texas A & M University, College Station in USA.

He is presently in US undergoing his three month professional training in “usage of GIS for ecological restoration” at Department of Ecosystem Science & Management, Texas A & M University under guidance of Dr Steven Whisenant, professor and head.

This fellowship was awarded to him through national level selection held at New Delhi. This was awarded by United States department of state, Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the J William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) in Washington and administered by United States Education Foundation in India.

During his three month stay in US, Dr Tendulkar will study application of GIS technology in developing affordable and improved environmental information system for restoration of mined areas. He will visit different restored sites which were earlier being used for extractive purpose to get first hand information. He will also interact with the scientist in associated department to learn the principle of restoration.

Dr Tendulkar has obtained his PhD in Horticulture from Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi in 1997 and was earlier working with Goa State Council for Science & Technology, Govt of Goa as project scientist (Agriculture). He is presently working at Mineral Foundation of Goa as Program Manager and associated with management of different programs undertaken by the Foundation.

Dr Tendulkar has unique distinction of obtaining his entire professional education through different scholarship like Zuari Agro Scholarship for BSc. (Agri) and ICAR Junior and Senior Fellowship for MSc & Ph D. He has studied at Dapoli, Dharwad and New Delhi.  He is from Dabhal and son of Keshav R Tendulkar a progressive farmer.

Dr Tendulkar has keen interest in watershed development, application of GIS for developmental works and other programs associated with Rural Development.
