Paris, Nov 27 (IANS/AKI): Italian Premier Matteo Renzi and French President Francois Hollande called on world powers to intensify the fight against the Islamic State (IS) with the aim of eliminating the terrorist group.

"We need an ever-broader coalition to destroy IS and its atrocious project," Renzi said in Paris after a meeting with Hollande at the Elsyee palace.

Renzi did not commit Italy to providing any new military support to combat IS in Syria, where French military jets have been carrying out strikes on the IS targets following the deadly November 13 attacks in Paris.

"We're focusing our attention on the Vienna process for Syria," Renzi said, referring to international talks to try to find a political solution to Syria's almost-five-year-long conflict.

Renzi's meeting with Hollande came amid Hollande's search for allies in the war against IS that has already seen him hold talks with Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron, US President Barack Obama, Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Germany will deploy a warship and Tornado jets to bomb IS positions in Syria, member of parliament Henning Otte from Merkel's Christian Social Union (CDU) party said on Thursday.

Germany will also boost its military trainers in northern Iraq, Otte said.
