Mangalore, Aug 18: Vijaya Bank general manager Shamasundara Shetty in a press release here declared that the bank has earned a net profit of Rs 331 crore during the financial year 2006-07.

The total transactions carried out by the bank during the period amounted to Rs 66,000 crore. Compared to the previous financial year the bank had recorded a 38 per cent increase in its transactions. The net profit in the last quarter stood at Rs 111.5 crore the release informed.

Moreover, on the anvil were plans by the bank to increase the total number of its branches to 1,050 by March, 2008. The total number of ATMs is to be raised to 375.  Along with agriculture sector, in priority sectors too Vijaya bank has achieved its target, informed Shetty in the press release.

The release further stated that the bank has distributed till date loans of Rs 160 crore through Self-Help Groups.
