Rains in Shimla, Manali, mercury dips


Shimla, Nov 27 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh's popular tourist destinations Shimla and Manali received rainfall on Friday, pushing down the temperatures by several notches.

Shimla and its nearby places like Kufri and Narkanda have been experiencing rainfall since morning, according to a Met official.

Manali too received rain on Friday, the official added.

"High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur and Shimla districts were having snowfall since Thursday evening," the official said.

Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, recorded about one cm of snow, while it was two cm in Kalpa in Kinnaur district.

Shimla recorded a low of 4.3 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 0.7 degree in Keylong, 0.0 degree in Kalpa and 0.2 degrees Celsius in Manali, which saw 16 mm of rain.

The Met department's forecast said storms originating from Caspian Sea in the central Asia and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region would remain active till Saturday.
