AAP lawmakers mount pressure to disqualify Sharma

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS): AAP women lawmakers on Thursday mounted pressure on Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel to disqualify BJP legislator O.P. Sharma for his alleged derogatory remark about AAP's Alka Lamba.

With a black ribbon tied on her left arm, Lamba said Sharma must be jailed for the obscene remarks he made about her. Her view was echoed by other five women Aam Aadmi Party legislators.

"We will not budge from our demand. He must be sent to jail and disqualified," Lamba said.

Her colleague Rakhi Birla said "narrow minded people like Sharma should not be in the state assembly but in jail".

The legislators massed near the speaker's podium.

Meanwhile, the house referred the matter to the Ethics Committee.

The development took place after the other two BJP members in the house, Vijender Gupta and Jagdish Pradhan, walked out in protest against Goel's decision to reject their privilege motion alleging that AAP legislators tried to attack Sharma in the assembly.

Sharma's November 24 remark against Lamba in the assembly led to his suspension till on Thursday.
