Guerrillas storm army camp in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 25 (IANS): Militants stormed an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday injuring a soldier, a senior police officer said. But other police sources said one soldier was killed.

Two or three guerrillas entered the 3/1 Gorkha Rifles army camp in Tangdhar town in Kupwara district bordering the Pakistan border, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajaz Ahmad told reporters.

A fire broke out in the petrol depot inside the camp after the attack, he said.

"An operation has been launched to flush out the militants. According to our reports, a soldier has sustained injuries," he added.

But other police sources told IANS that one soldier had died and three others had been injured in the heavy exchange of ongoing gunfire at the camp.

Para-commandos and helicopters were deployed to flush out the guerrillas from the camp.
