Bangalore, Aug 16: According to a study conducted by a private hospital here, more than 50 per cent of people who are younger than 45 years of age have heart attack which includes women. 

The study labelled "Hare and Dare Programme" was carried out by Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation on 100 persons for a year to gather data on heart disease risk factors. It was also conducted to find out the reason why young people of the city face the threat of heart attacks.
 
This programme was started by Trinity Hospital to have a clear understanding and to know the exact incidence, said Dr B G Muralidhar CMD of the hospital, in a press conference here.
 
People who had come under the study, many, did not have any symptoms of heart disease, but had evidence of blocks in the arteries in heart as well as in blood vessels, which supplies blood to brain, kidneys and legs which is called as peripheral vascular disease.

Recently women have started smoking, which will certainly give rise to cardiac ailments, he informed.
