Mangalore, Aug 15: Highway patrol police seized a large quantity of sandalwood in Konaje police limits on Wednesday August 15.

The contraband was detected when the police conducted a random check on a car which was moving in a suspicious manner at Asai in Manjanady village.

One Mohamad Ahmad alias 'Silk' Mahmad was arrested in this regard.
 
The unofficial value of the sandalwood has been placed at Rs 2 lac. A Maruti 800 car worth Rs 1 lac, which was used to transport the sandalwood was also seized by the police.

Under the guidance of Panambur DySP Pitambar Heraje, sub inspector Mohan Kottari and highway patrol squad carried out the operation.
