Mangalore, Aug 15: A police constable was severely assaulted by a group of persons under the influence of alcohol in a bar at Farangipet on national highway 48 on Wednesday August 15 afternoon.
The constable has been identified as Vasu Naik, who was on duty at the Farangipet outpost. The incident occurred when Vasu Naik went to the bar to control the situation where a group was reported to be fighting among themselves under the influence of alcohol.
Sources said that a total of 4 persons, alleged to be having a criminal background, assaulted him severely.
Bada Ashraf, one of the alleged miscreants among them, was immediately arrested by the Bantwal rural police. Others are said to be absconding.
Vasu Naik has been admitted to a primary health centre in Bantwal. The Bantwal rural police are looking for the other three miscreants.
