China lifts smog warning

Beijing, Nov 16 (IANS) Chinese authorities have lifted a yellow warning for smog in the northern part of the country, the media reported on Monday.

The National Meteorological Centre on Sunday lifted the warning and said that a cold front will gradually reduce the smog in the next three days, but some areas will still be shrouded by light to moderate smog, the Global Times reported.

China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

In the past week, heavy smog lingered in most parts of northern China, including Beijing and Tianjin municipalities and Hebei province.

In Beijing, severe air pollution lingered throughout the weekend, and showed some signs of decline only by late Sunday.
