IS claims responsibility for Paris attacks that killed 128

Paris, Nov 14 (AFP): At least 128 people were killed in a series of coordinated attacks by suicide bombers and gunmen in Paris at a concert hall, restaurants and the national sports stadium claimed by Islamic State jihadists today.

French President Francois Hollande also blamed the Islamic extremist group and called the coordinated assault last night at six different sites an "act of war".

At least eight militants, all wearing suicide vests, brought unprecedented violence to the streets of the French capital in the worst attacks in Europe since the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

In the bloodiest part of a night of violence, four men armed with AK47s and shouting "Allahu akbar" stormed into a rock concert at the Bataclan concert hall in eastern Paris, gunning down at least 82 people and taking dozens hostage.

"They didn't stop firing. There was blood everywhere, corpses everywhere. Everyone was trying to flee," said Pierre Janaszak, a radio presenter who was at the concert by US rock band Eagles of Death Metal.

The gunmen were heard raging at Hollande and his decision in September to begin air strikes on Islamic State jihadists in Syria. "I clearly heard them say 'It's the fault of Hollande, it's the fault of your president, he should not have intervened in Syria'," Janaszak added.

French officials have spoken frequently of their fears that hundreds of French citizens thought to be fighting with IS in Syria and Iraq would return to France and launch attacks.

France has taken part in US-led air strikes on IS targets in Iraq for over a year and in September began bombing the jihadists in Syria, claiming to have hit a training camp and an oil installation.

In a statement issued online this morning, Islamic State said that "eight brothers wearing explosive belts and carrying assault rifles" conducted a "blessed attack on... Crusader France."

The death toll of 128 does not include the eight attackers, the first suicide bombers to strike in France. The assault also left at least 250 wounded, 100 of them seriously.

Hollande said the multiple attacks across Paris were "an act of war... committed by a terrorist army, Daesh, against France", using another term for IS. France has been on high alert since January when jihadist gunmen killed 17 people in Paris in attacks targeting satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket.

Another disaster was narrowly averted in August when a gunman was overpowered on a packed high-speed train in northern France. No arrests had been made by early this morning and the country was in a state of emergency, decreed by Hollande last night.

Police were screening hours of CCTV footage of the attack sites and were attempting to identify the body parts of the attackers. As a precaution, sports events were cancelled in Paris, while public schools and many museums were closed.

Hollande himself had to be hastily evacuated from the Stade de France stadium when suicide bombers struck outside during a friendly football international between France and Germany.

At first, few of the crowd appeared to grasp the significance of what was happening and the game continued. When news began filtering in, people surged on to the turf in chaotic scenes.

US President Barack Obama led a chorus of global condemnation, saying it was "an attack on all of humanity", and New York lit the new World Trade Centre in the red, white and blue of the French flag in sympathy.

Obama is one of dozens of world leaders expected to attend key UN climate talks just outside the French capital from November 30. Authorities had already tightened security at France's borders yesterday, hours ahead of the carnage in Paris.

The worst of the killing occurred at the Bataclan music venue in the trendy 11th arrondissement where more than 1,000 rock fans were at the sell-out show.

As screams rang out and survivors ran over the injured or dead to make their ways to the exits or places to hide, the militants took hostages and began executing them.

"We heard people screaming - the hostages particularly - and the threats from the kidnappers," said another survivor, 34-year-old Charles. Along with around 20 others, he fled to a toilet where he pushed through the ceiling and hid in the cavity.

Three of the militants blew up their explosive belts as heavily armed anti-terror police raided the venues around 12.30 am (0500 IST), while a fourth was shot dead.

Another attacker blew himself up in nearby Boulevard Voltaire, as the streets were filled with the sound of police sirens and convoys of ambulances shipping hundreds of injured to hospital.

A police officer who took part in the storming of the building told AFP: "It was horrible inside, a bloodbath, people shot in the head, people who were shot as they were lying on the ground."

Several restaurants near the concert hall were also targeted, including a popular Cambodian eatery in the trendy Canal St. Martin area, where bars and restaurants were thronged with young revellers. An extra 1,500 soldiers were mobilised to reinforce police in Paris, Hollande's office said.

French media reacted with horror. "War in central Paris," splashed centre-right daily Le Figaro, with Le Parisien saying: "This time it's war." Other reactions were a mix of fear and defiance.

Concert-goer Charles, who spoke to AFP at the Bataclan, said he would refuse to be cowed by the scenes of terror he had experienced. "Life goes on. We won't give in to fear," he said. "I'm going to a concert on Tuesday. Keep rocking!"

If the independent india was under worst turmoil, it was the 80s and 90s and we know the reason well. There was no TV then and hence we come to know of it only thru radio news or news paper after few days.. Yes, we do have problems today also and I DONT say t is absolute peace. But the days are better compared to what we had in those times.
But due to electonic media and the sensationalization reporting, every dadri and kalburgi incident is exagerated to the core. A Prashant or a Kuttapa is ridiculed to the core. it needs maturity to understand what news need what weightage. The chaddis too dont know how to talk, but no one takes them seriously anyways. Alas, the psuedo intellect coterie is in such a state of mind that it does not want to listen to anyone as it thing it is intelligent by birth.. Extreme thought process is always harmful, be it on the right or on the left. The moement the psuedos stop double speak, there will be more peace for sure.

    Mathin Farooqui,
What crime do you think France committed in the Muslim World? Is fighting terrorism a crime in your eyes? Their first and foremost crime is accepting millions of Muslims in their country. Don’t take me wrong, I don’t blame all the Muslims. My blame goes only to those with criminal ideologies, their mentors and their direct and indirect supporters like you. Today France has highest number of Muslims in the EU. The Western Countries always provided security to the civilians in the Muslim World against terrorists. What Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria would have done on their own without the help from the US and its allies? What would have been the fate of Kuwait if the US did not provide them with timely help during the Gulf War? If you mistake this security for crime, then it is misconception of people like you. Even today millions of Muslims are escaping from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, African Countries and seek refuge in the Western Countries. Not a single Muslim country has come forward to accept these refugees. If some are escaping poverty, many are escaping terrorism. Despite facing terrorism from these ungrateful creatures, they still invite millions of Muslim refugees with open arms. It’s called biting the very hand fed to them.

Nobody is saying ISIS are innocents..they are barbarics killing their own people but coming to your points your claims are childish and why I rebut it
1)"What crime do you think France committed in the Muslim World?" this claim is itself oxymoron
just visit few decades back massacre and rape committed by french army in north america particularly in algeria...you should have knowledge of that..
    2)Is fighting terrorism a crime..?
definitely not but what west has done is in the name of terrorism they have killed millions of innocents..what do you call it dont these people have life like those in west..?
    3) The Western Countries always provided security to the civilians in the Muslim World against terrorists.
this is absurd statement instead west has exploited terrorist elemnt in muslim world making them much more strong...to fight against soviet,to overthrow gaddafi,to overthrow saddam in iraq, assad in syria,in afghanistan,in tunisia.in yemen...west backed extremist elements(religiously motivated) not necesseraly to wipe out terrorism but in contrary they used extremist element to meet their end goals...they support it in other land but not in theirs
4)What would have been the fate of Kuwait if the US did not provide them with help..
    fate of kuwait!!
saddam eyed petrol rich kuwait...by the time relation between U.S and saddam was not in good terms..U.S eyed the same..so they supported one dictator against other..what motivated is not security but petro dollars..
5)Muslim countries never accepted migrants...Yes some of them never did but not all of them.. just like some european countries...
The refugees, instability in middle east ,now attack on european soil are all spill out of western interference in middle eastern politics...western countries knew that refugees will ultimately land in their soil..many of them had already warned them.. accepting refugees is not liability but duty on them..it is duty on them for creating mess on other land

It is touching to see you give us a moral lecture on how we should not be 'scoring points when people are being killed in Paris', but spare me the fake angst.
We are NOT the ones responsible for the cold-blooded murder of 160 people in Paris. The people who are responsible for the crime have names. And faces. And an ideology.
The ideology has a name too. It starts with an I, and that I does NOT stand for Ice-cream. Or India. Or intelligence.
Please do not be squeamish about naming it.
If one horrible lynching in ‪#‎Dadri‬ can make you coin words like 'Hindu Taliban', why are so many of you calling this act of terror a 'problem of humanity'?
Remember, an attack like this can happen in Mumbai. In Pune. In Varanasi.
In fact, an attack like this HAS happened in Mumbai. In Pune. In Varanasi.
It can happen again. And again. And again. Till the problem is named and faced.
Next time, it could be YOU who is at the receiving end of the barrel of the AK 47 while you are enjoying an ‪#‎AmanKiAsha‬ concert at the Wankhede stadium.
Bullets won't spare you just because you call yourself a 'liberal'.
So please, if you DO care for 'people being killed in Paris', direct your ire at the ones who are responsible for the killings.

There are several attacks happened in India faking that I. Later they found fake beard, fake identity and some people killed in a factory where they manufacturing bombs in Pune/Nasik.
You forgot this or deliberately overlooking such incidents.
Mumbai attack is also another fake story fragging that I you are talking about
Throughout there are many fake attacks happening, and people have realized who is doing it and why he is blaming others for such attacks. Please google and see more than 100 video proof of 9/11 attacks
Fake reasons, fake wars just to gain control on oil wealth.
You see these are end products of such wars, displacing people from Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and now Syria.... this will continue till dooms day....these are the signs of final hour

Some people started blaming religion...this doesnt work..your old tactics didnot yield any result in past...when muslims were killed in myanmar media did not blame it on budddhism...
when whatever ills happened in Israel, when 400 children are massacred blame was put on poor palestines...nobody bamed it on judaism ....and world takes it in casual way for the lives there....this type of incident make people radicalised...These are the ingredients of extremism... Ex CIA chief has pointed out that the current mess in syria is direct result of U.S interference in Iraq and creating mess there...When few people are killed in west it creates ripples yes every human life has values....do you know how many millions are killed in Iraq just for one person on wrong pretext, same goes to afghanistan...This is what creates organisation like ISIS...these people are extremely radicalised and are ready to radicalise others....If west is genuinely concerned of terrorism it shouldnt support one terrorist org against other...they wickedly follow it...when western powers started replacing dictators in libya ,tunisia.....who were mainly pro leftist...Did you know with whome they replaced it with..."Islamist"...french govt was one among them ...to replace communist govt in Yemen they support other rebels...to replace pro leftist baathist saddam and assad they are supporting other extremist rebels(religiously motivated)..The way of tackling ISIS west has simply failed....what is hapeening in syria is battle between asssad's russia and rebels backed by gulf states and west...both are claiming they are fighting against ISIS...if they were really fighting agianst ISIS it would have been terminated by now...world need to come together on tackling ISIS...because in creation of it they played major rule...and sympathies with those innocents killed in france and across the world...

Unfortunately for France, they have been carrying this huge explosive underbelly in Algerians and other African nationals with French passports that always never considered France as its motherland and French never really embraced them. They came in as refugees just as Syrians are arriving in lakhs these days but soon they start to assert themselves and want to make it their own country. The same warmth is then not expressed by the hosts but they insist on better integration. And whence starts the friction. The concepts and ideas of terror groups is that anybody who is disgruntled can these days find arms to terrorize. There is a reason why France is facing this attack the second time in less than an year. (a) A huge disgruntled Muslim population. (b) Over emphasis to a band of thugs called ISIS in Syria and their killing techniques by international media. Europe can expect more in the coming years if they do not look inwards. and return to Syria for a world cup match with Russia, US and a sole opposition team in Bashar Asaad's Syria.

US itself paid heavily interms of money and its soldiers. Still there is no hope, but only fighting in these countries. US people are against sending troops to other countries now. Now Russia entered with direct support to Assad, they bombed terrorists hideouts, but can not destroy all terrorists because many terrorists are living with common people and has their support too. Until and unless all people of Syria unites against Isis and all other terrorists there is no hope. If all people are united then very next day you can see all terrorists will vanish.

USA killed many prime ISIS terrorists. Do you mean ISIS is sympathetic to Assad.

USA didn't send bulk of their foot soldiers to Syria because they know what happened In Iraq, the Shias and sunnies both have attacked USA's interests. Hence they didn't enter syria. Instead they formed a coalition to bomb ISIS. Unfortunately the coalition like Middle Easterners worked against USA and helped ISIS. The rebels also helped ISIS by joining ISIS.

that means at least 6000 couple of reproductive age. that means each couple breed on an average one child per two years.so in by 2040 Germany will have more syrian population than native Germans ( german usually wont breed like rabbits!!)

so expect more bomb blasts, more religious centres than bosch or wolksvogen factories, change of demography followed by change of holidays, change of food habits, change in woman's freedom.

    Germany will become Syria.

it is one and half year modi came to power as pm and there is not one major terrorist incident has taken place.that shows how modi led govt is working diligently in security of india which is entrenched in hostile region sorrounded by hostile countries.

after this incident terrorism will be taken seriously by global community and india which has been shouting from past decade that terrrorism in india is not only confined to india but a global problem which world community needs to address ASAP will be taken seriously from now on by western world.

These western nations leaders only condemn and condemn every time these types of terrorist incidence happens.

It is time to root out the devil, else it wont keep quiet.

I do support Russian policy in these. Where as, if we look for human rights, there is no way out.

Do these have human rights. Just as when KPS Gill was commander of the operations in Kashmir, many years back, he gave a good answer, if there is a terrorist coming to attack you, should I offer him roses?

Condemn the terrorist attack, hold the candle vigilance, attend the memorial service and forget everything thereafter until another attack happens. Sometime I am doubting myself whether these the same European countries that fought two world wars .If so then where the courage, bravery that shown by these countries then had gone vanished now. Why these countries are become so weak and bending down in front of terror act each time whenever it happens. Even after all these sufferings, why they are welcoming more and more refugees to come inside and breed. What the point in having most powerful militaries in the world with sophisticated arms if they even can’t confront the attacks carried out with AK-47 .Just wishing to see another Hitler taking birth to flush out the fanatics and clean the Europe.

Senseless killing of innocent people - R.I.P

This killing and mayhem which has been going around the world and every country has been effected in a small or big way.

The onus is on the world leaders and the leaders in each and every community to come together to seek a permanent solution to these grave problems being faced by humanity. Failing which the world will soon be heading for a third world war.

ISIS, LeT, Taleban, JuD were all one point of time considered as fringe elements, fighting for their culture, religion and religious identity. Today they are terror machines.

In India such oroganizations are on the raise, majority ignores them calling they are fringe elements and they are trying to save something.

The recent incidents of rape, murders and stabbings happening around india is a grim reminder that all these organizations are too close for their elavation to terror groups.

Some peace march, candle march, nationwide bandh is not going to solve the problem. Communities must come out and inform police regarding the radicalization of their young by any group.

It maybe a retaliation due to joint military operation by USA UK France and other European union countries in west Asia .But due to this radical action the innocent citizens are the victims. The world forum should take up this burning issue in UNO and other Asian countries apex body. One way the joint military operation led by the USA in west Asia countries against upsurge of people with king/military system without the resolution of UNO is unjustified. Secondly why militants are growing world over should be minutely studied by these world body. The people in west Asia now more educated and want their government to led by representative of people instead of king or military system. UNO should decide whether any country invade other weaker countries without the consent of UNO. Both these military and radicals action are terrorists action.
