Mangalore, Aug 12: A total of 170 villages in Dakshina Kannada have faced electricity problems as a result of recent heavy rain and whirlwind, according to a report submitted by MESCOM to the state government.

Power problem caused by shortage in supply is the most common feature in Dakshina Kannada. However, the district has faced more severe problems in  rainy season. Hence energy minister H D Revanna had asked the MESCOM authorities to submit a report.

A total of 1611 electric poles have collapsed in the month of June. On the other hand, electric lines and poles covering a distance of around 45.63 kms have been damaged till date. A total loss of Rs 1.47 crore has been estimated by MESCOM in this regard, added the report.
