Mangalore, Aug 12: Former minister Bellippady Ramanath Rai has been appointed president of Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee, sources here informed.

He succeeds former minister and MLC Blasius M D'Souza. There was a long pending demand from partymen to put an active person in charge, so that the party could be rebuilt efficiently from the grassroots. It is generally understood that D’Souza is not very actively involved for some time because of ill health.

The high command has already declared Ramanath Rai as president. However, the order letter has not yet reached the KPCC office. If the high command decides to stick to its present decision, Rai will take over on Monday August 12, sources informed.
