Udupi, Aug 11: A protest was staged in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Friday August 10 by Karnataka Janapara Vedike demanding legal action against those who had spread rumours about the cook Jayalakshmi Bhovi at Thombattu village in Kundapur Taluk which led to her social boycott.

The Health and Family Welfare Department along with other other departments should create some sort of awareness among the people residing in the village and find a solution to the problem, stated Sriram Divana, the convener of the Vedike in a memorandum submitted to the DC.

Janardhan Bhandarkar and Damodar Jathana, office-bearers of the vedike were present during the protest.
